Полиции удалось найти очевидца происшествия, вместе с которым сотрудники стали ездить по улицам района. Вскоре им удалось заметить молодого человека, которого очевидец опознал, как одного из возможных поджигателей. Подозреваемый был задержан и доставлен в отдел МВД по району Орехово-Борисово Южное. Молодой человек признался в содеянном. Удалось задержать и троих его приятелей.

Было установлено, что четверо молодых людей, двое – 1995 г.р., двое – 1993 г.р. (несовершеннолетние, допрошены в присутствии родителей) и одна девушка, 1990 г.р., все являющиеся учащимися Полиграфического колледжа, ночью гуляли по Москве.

Трое из задержанных заявили, что они придерживаются праворадикальных взглядов, поэтому, когда один из них предложил пойти "наказать" соседа по дому, остальные эту идею поддержали. У девушки с собой в сумке была жидкость для розжига, которой они и облили машину, после чего подожгли. Двое из их друзей, по предварительным данным, только наблюдали за происходящим.

В настоящее время следственной частью СУ УВД по ЮАО ГУ МВД России по г. Москве возбуждено уголовное дело по части 2 статьи 167 УК РФ (максимальное наказание до 5 лет лишения свободы). Трое подозреваемые (девушка, и молодые люди) задержаны в порядке 91 статьи УПК РФ. С двоих свидетелей следователем взята подписка о невыезде. Проводятся следственно-оперативные мероприятия, в частности обыски.

У подозреваемых, в том числе, изъяты мобильные телефоны, на которых обнаружено видео с фактами поджогов. В настоящий момент подозреваемые проверяются на причастность к совершению аналогичных преступлений, совершенных на территории столицы. Они сознались в совершении 11 поджогов.
